This is one big disadvantage of halogen headlights: unless you go non-road legal, you won’t be able to achieve a true close colour match to a xenon HID.

Often referred to as xenon headlights, HIDs are brighter, whither, and more efficient than halogens. Most halogen headlamps produce a colour temperature between approximately 3200K and 5000K. Having said all of that, I (personally) don’t have a problem with most OEM HID setups I have come across (as an observer) and as a user (I have the HID option in my R/T), I’m glad I got them. HID, or high-intensity discharge, headlights work a lot like the fluorescent bulbs you’d find in an office. ….and given that designs will differ (HID or halogen), it’s really not a “black & white” issue IMO/IME. On another note (in bwbike’s defense) I would like to point out that not all OEM HID’s perform similarly and individual perception also varies (some are simply more sensitive to the glare/dazzle/intensity observed in certain applications). HID headlights last for 2000-3000-hours, which is ten times lower than LEDs. LED kits last longer than their counterparts at 30000-40000 operation hours. In addition, HID lights support many colors, seven to be precise. Dirt, moisture or oil from your fingers on the quartz glass bulb can cause premature failure. While both are bright than standard lamps, HIDs have a larger area coverage. Operating at extremely hot temperatures makes them less energy efficient and reduces their lifespan. They perform better (they’re brighter), the glass on the Osram is clear (not tinted) and the quality/difference in manufacturing is noticeable by comparison in the examples I have seen (solder connections, etc.). Lower light output and less bright than LED or HID headlights. If anything, I would suggest choosing Osram Siverstars (European version) over the ones sold under the Sylvania name here in the US. While high efficacy halogen bulbs will have a shorter lifespan than your typical OEM bulb, products like Philips XTreme +80’s and Osram Night Breaker +90’s are still a better option IMO/IME. While YMMV, I agree (based on my limited experience testing those bulbs and reading feedback over the years).
